IRCTC is a popular site for Indian Railway reservation. We earlier posted a detailed guide on the online Indian railways booking process. Here we will see how to check for seat availability and make any train fare enquiry.
To get started, you need to register as an individual. IRCTC Registration is however free and easy. Head on to www.irctc.co.in/ and register yourselves. Once you had registered, login by using your user name and password.
When you login, you will find a “Plan my travel” widget on the left. Select the “From” and “To” stations. When you enter the first three characters of the station name against “From” or “To”, all stations commencing with that name will appear as a drop drown. Select the most appropriate From or To stations.
Next, enter the date of travel, ticket type (choose either an i-ticket or e-ticket option) and Quota – General, Tatkal or Ladies. If you are a family, select “General”. Click on “Find Trains”.
The list of all trains available between the selected source and destination stations appears on the screen.
Once you click on the button against the appropriate “Class” and the train in the matrix, you will be shown the “Train Fare” and the “Seat Availability“.
You may then click “Book” against the available dates to book train tickets for your travel.
If you want to know the availability of seats/berths, Choose the train and click “Show Availability”.To get the fare, click on “Get Fare” button. The fare appearing is for a single adult Passenger excluding the service charges charged by IRCTC and by the Bank (Credit Card/Direct Debit).
You can not only book Indian Railway Train tickets, but you may also check the PNR status for the booked rail tickets i.e. whether the tickets are in “confirmed”, “Wait listed” or “RAC” status. The official Indian Railways website also provides further information on making this status enquiry by sending an SMS or making a phone call from landline or mobile phones. You can check out the following tutorials to know more about online ticket booking, cancellation and refund policy and PNR status enquiry.
