Indian Passport Application – How To Register Online?

This is on how to apply for an Indian Passport Online. It must be remembered that you only register your India passport application form online through this process. But you must in any case visit your respective passport seva kendras, to present all the required documents for verification.

Registration of passport application forms online can be made for the following purposes.

  • Application for a fresh passport,
  • Application for re-issue of passport i.e. if your present passport of 10 years validity has expired or will expire in next 12 months and
  • Application for a duplicate passport, if your present passport is lost or damaged.

You are however advised to read all information on the website before registering your passport application online.You can access the new official Indian passport website and read through the step by step instructions for submitting an e-form or an online form, for issue of fresh passport or re-issue of expired passport or for obtaining a police clearance certificate.

After reading and understanding the process, register at passport seva kendra portal here by entering all the required information and clicking “Register” button (at the bottom of the screen), to register an user id.

After registration, login with the registered user id. If e-form is your preferred method of making your online passport application, generate an xml file after filling all the relevant information in the downloaded e-form and clicking the “Validate and save” button. Upload the generated xml file by clicking on “Upload e-Form” link on the official website. If “Online form” is your preferred method of submission, click “Apply for Fresh Passport / Reissue of Passport” link, fill in all the relevant information and submit it.

Schedule an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra by clicking “Manage Appointment” link. Print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number by clicking the “Print Application Receipt” link.

After printing the passport application receipt, visit the passport seva kendra office along with all relevant documents. Make sure that you visit them within 90 days from the date of scheduling the appointment online.
