  • Wordpress Post or Page titles can be written or edited in all supported languages
  • Wordpress Post or Page URL slugs can be written or edited in all supported languages
  • Wordpress Post Categories and Tags can be written or edited in all supported languages
  • Lets your blog/site visitors to comment in any one or more of the supported languages

In effect, you can easily create and manitain a wordpress blog in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada or Arabic or a combination of all these languages.

How to install WP google Language Transliteration plugin?

You can install this plugin like any other wordpress plugin. Unzip the contents of the downloaded zip file into your `/wp-content/plugins/` directory and activate it. That is all!!!

You will find a language dropdown getting added on to your wordpress admin pages, namely “Add New Post” and “Add New Page”.Simply choose the language of you choice and start editing the content phonetically in English script. Every word gets automatically transliterated, upon pressing the space bar, on your keyboard. Note that this is not the same as translation — it is the sound of the words that are converted, from one character set to the other (Roman to Devangiri), and not their meaning.

This plugin also adds a language selection dropdown to your comment form, thereby letting your visitors to comment in languages of their choice!!! Find below a few screenshots.

This plugin makes use of Google APIs to integrate transliteration to wordpress.Currently the Google APIs expose only five languages for transliteration.the plugin will automatically support more languages including Marathi, Bengali, Gujarathi, Nepali and more as soon as Google exposes APIs to all those languages.

If you have more questions on Transliteration usage, you may check out the Google article here. the plugin has been submitted for inclusion in wordpress repository.

Hi, even i am not able to use the plugin. i get the language drop down in Firefox , but after i type any text, it does not translate any text. it still displays in English itself. downloaded v.01 of your plugin. i m using Firefox 3.0.10, tried it in Firefox 3.5 too.

in ie7 i am not getting the drop down itself.

also, the link for download you have given above does not seem to be working. it says file not found on the wordpress.org

Hi Suhas, Quick response of yours. However, as i mentioned before, i am not able to download the plugin from here. The download link over there says “File Not Found”. Can you provide me with an alternate link for download. sorry if i am missing out few known things here :)

  10. Ubaid says on: 21 September 2009 at 9:25 pm

Sorry for the previous post, got it downloaded. however i dont see anything in the drop down, both ofr firefox and ie7. get this js error in ie7,

transliterationControl is Null or Not an object.

i get this only when i click on the checkbox on the post-new page..

    • Suhas says on: 22 September 2009 at 6:14 am

I am not sure why you get that error as I find it working correctly in firefox and IE6 now. I don’t have IE 7 to test it. Are you behind a firewall? or does your access to google servers restricted?

How about comments box and when you try to create a new page?

      • Ubaid says on: 22 September 2009 at 10:21 am

Is there an option to set Default Language, since right now Arabic is shown as default language

    • Suhas says on: 12 October 2009 at 9:20 am

The dropdown has the languages in alphabetic order. So you will have to manually select the language.
