World’s Oldest Steam Engine “The Express Loco” is all set to run again!!!

Southern Railway is now planning for a heritage run, in chennai, with the world’s oldest steam locomotive, “The Express Loco”! This historic train is all set to run again, thereby reviving its lost glory and thrill that train lovers enjoyed in a Heritage Run.

The Express LocoThe Steam locomotive was used by the erstwhile East Indian Railway till 1909! Thereafter, it remained parked in Jamalpur and Howrah, as a piece of exhibit for over 100 years, and now it has been brought to Chennai by road for the Heritage run! The ‘Express Loco’ is older than the ‘Fairy Queen’! The steam-fired locomotive can haul at least four coaches comfortably.

The Heritage Run is planned between Royapuram, the oldest railway station building in Southern Railway, and Avadi. “Depending upon the response, Southern Railway will consider operating the Heritage Run at periodic intervals.

The ‘Express Loco’ has a coal capacity of one tonne and two water tanks of 3,000 litres capacity each! Enjoy the heritage run in a visit to chennai!!!
